Joanne Murabito, MD

Dr. Joanne Murabito is Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and a practicing primary care physician at Boston Medical Center, a large safety net hospital. She has been affiliated with the Framingham Heart Study as the Research Center Director for many years and Co-Principal Investigator since 2017. She is also an investigator with the Long Life Family Study. Dr. Murabito’s research interest is identifying the determinants of healthy aging and longevity including genetic and genomic factors. She is leading the highly productive multidisciplinary international Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomics Epidemiology (CHARGE) Aging and Longevity working group. The Consortium unites scientists interested in aging, longevity, and reproductive aging (menarche, menopause) and the relation of these traits to health outcomes and gene discovery. In addition, she led the introduction of mobile health into the Framingham Heart Study with an embedded eCohort to examine digital phenotypes and cardiovascular health. She participated in an embedded physical activity trial using a smartphone app or activity tracker and is currently exploring the use of a smartphone app to monitor health in older adults.
